Why are porcupine dates so expensive?
Four factors: grade (the condition of the raw bezoar), age (aged bezoar cannot be produced faster), whether it is shelled (shelling discards much of the raw weight), and process (nano extraction adds work). Underneath all of it is scarcity — not every porcupine forms a bezoar.
Is buying a larger weight cheaper?
Yes, noticeably. Grade 1 is RM400 for 1 gram but RM1,588 for 10 grams — roughly RM159 per gram, about 60% less. Premium Nano at 36 grams works out around RM429 a gram against RM700 for a single gram. The 1-gram size carries all the fixed handling cost.
How do I compare prices between sellers?
Line up grade, weight and price per gram together. Comparing totals alone is meaningless — "RM700 a portion" could be one gram or two. Total divided by weight is the only figure that compares across sellers.
What if someone is selling far cheaper?
Establish the grade, the weight and the price per gram first. If it is still far below market once those line up, consider adulteration, refurbished stock or unclear provenance. Supply is genuinely scarce, so a large gap normally has a cause.
